Municipio of Santiago de las Vegas

The Municipio of Santiago de las Vegas is one of the twenty six municipios in the province of Havana, Cuba. This municipio covers a surface of 83 square kilometers. To the north it borders with the Municipio of Havana; to the east with San Antonio de las Vegas; To the south with Bejucal; and to the west with Bauta and Marianao.


Note: A “municipio” (plural: municipios) is the first political division of the provinces in Cuba. It is similar, in many ways, to the county or parish in which a state is divided in the United States.

Population: The population of this municipio in 1953 was 32,891 persons.

Jurisdiction: In 1940 the Municipio of Santiago de las Vegas was part of the judicial party and the fiscal district of Bejucal.

Barrios: The “barrios” (singular: barrio) are similar to the electoral districs in which a county is divided in the United Sates.


The barrios of Santiago de las Vegas in 1943 were: Aguada del Cura, Calabazar, Doña María, General Peraza, Norte, Rincón and Sur.


Aguada del Cura: Includes the town of Aguada del Cura.


Calabazar: Includes the town of Calabazar.


Doña María: It is located two kilometers from the city of Santiago de las Vegas.


General Peraza: Was called Rancho Boyeros. It is located three kilometers from the city of Santiago de las Vegas. Includes the town of General Peraza or Rancho Boyeros.


Norte: Part of the city of Santiago de las Vegas.


Rincón: It is located one kilometers from the city of Santiago de las Vegas. Includes the town of Rincón.


Sur: Part of the city of Santiago de las Vegas.
